The Uniqueness of Nusantara and Traditional Dances at the 2025 International Culture Exchange (ICE) event at the Piksi Ganesha Polytechnic

Piksi Convention Center – 24th July, 2025

Bandung, 24th July 2025 – A colorful atmosphere and cultural vibrancy enveloped the campus of Politeknik Piksi Ganesha during the 2025 International Culture Exchange (ICE). The event, themed “Harmony in Global Cultural Diversity,” successfully showcased cross-border cultural collaboration on one grand stage, with the main highlight being the captivating performances of Politeknik Piksi Ganesha lecturers who performed Indonesian traditional and archipelago dances.

Uniquely, one of the main dancers was not a professional dancer, but rather lecturers from various departments at Politeknik Piksi Ganesha, who enthusiastically and dedicatedly presented Nusatara and traditional dances from various regions of Indonesia. This was a unique attraction, demonstrating that cultural preservation is not solely the responsibility of artists but also of academics who care about the nation’s heritage. It also represented an elegant blend of tradition and academic professionalism.

The various dances presented by the lecturers at ICE 2025 included:
Nusantara Dance, a collaborative fusion of dances from Sabang to Merauke, representing various ethnicities, customs, and cultural backgrounds. The lecturers danced wearing traditional costumes representing various regions in Indonesia.

Next was the Yogya Istimewa Dance, a new creative dance created to illustrate the uniqueness of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) through dance movements, music, and costumes that exemplify a blend of traditional and modern values.

Finally, the Melayu dance from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is a contemporary choreography based on Malay culture and local elements from NTT. This dance is usually created for cultural performances or festivals, especially when the theme is a fusion of national cultures. This dance is characterized by soft, graceful, and agile movements, reflecting the rhythmic character of Malay dance. Attire: Traditional woven fabrics from NTT can be combined with Malay clothing styles such as songket or long kebaya. Music: Malay songs combined with traditional NTT musical instruments such as gongs and sasando.

The Indonesian and traditional dance performances at ICE 2025 were not only a form of entertainment, but also a means of education and cultural diplomacy. Through this event, Politeknik Piksi Ganesha successfully conveyed the message that Indonesia’s cultural diversity is a strength to be proud of and to be introduced to the world. The ICE 2025 activities at Politeknik Piksi Ganesha were not simply artistic performances, but rather a concrete manifestation of the spirit of preserving, celebrating, and introducing Indonesian culture to the world through the synergy of education and tradition. Hopefully, this event will inspire other institutions to continue elevating local culture to the global stage
