Exploring Bandung’s Culture and History: Educational Diplomacy with International Students

Bandung, Saturday, July 27, 2025

As part of its program to strengthen diversity awareness and cultural diplomacy, Politeknik Piksi Ganesha continues its series of campus internationalization activities through a City Tour with students from various countries and regions, namely East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the Philippines, Thailand, and Sudan. This city tour of Bandung aims to introduce the history, cultural diversity, and religious tolerance in Indonesia, particularly in Bandung as an educational city and a city of struggle. The locations visited include the Al-Jabbar Grand Mosque, the Asia-Africa Museum, and the Merdeka Building, which are important symbols in Indonesia’s journey on the global stage.

A visit to the Al-Jabbar Mosque provides foreign students with a spiritual and educational experience regarding tolerance and modern Islamic architecture, while also introducing the values of diversity and openness in religious life in Indonesia. Meanwhile, at the Asia-Africa Conference Museum and Merdeka Building, participants were guided through the history of solidarity and the struggles of Asian and African nations against colonialism, which marked the beginning of global cooperation based on equality and peace. The students appeared enthusiastic and eager to follow the historical explanations, while also discussing the relevance of those struggles in today’s global context.

This activity supports the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education) through contextual learning outside the classroom, as well as SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) because it bridges interactions between local and international students from various cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening international cooperation and cross-cultural dialogue, which are beneficial for the development of more inclusive and globally-oriented higher education. Through this activity, Politeknik Piksi Ganesha not only introduces local cultural richness but also instills values of tolerance, solidarity, and the spirit of international collaboration among the younger generation.
