Initial Visit for 2025 Kemenristekdikti Community Service Grant Program: Politeknik Piksi Ganesha Implements Hydroponic Technology in Maleer Village

Bandung, August 1, 2025

Politeknik Piksi Ganesha conducted an initial visit for the implementation of its Community Service Program (PKM), funded by the 2025 Kemenristekdikti Grant. This activity is part of the project titled “Utilization of an IoT-Based Smart Hydroponic System to Improve Urban Farming Efficiency in Maleer Village, Batununggal District, Bandung City”, led by Seliwati, with team members Candra Mecca Sufyana and Widwi Handari Adji.

The visit took place in RW 07 of Maleer Village, the main site of program implementation. The purpose of this visit was to coordinate with community partners—particularly Buruan SAE—ensure site readiness, and socialize the implementation plan for the IoT-based hydroponic farming system. The system is designed to address land scarcity in urban areas while improving productivity and efficiency in local agriculture through automated, sensor-driven monitoring.

In their remarks, the implementation team emphasized that the program not only aims to introduce modern agricultural technology to the community but also to encourage active resident participation in system maintenance, training sessions, and sustaining harvest outcomes. The initiative was warmly welcomed by local authorities and residents as an effort to develop environmentally based productive economic activities relevant to food security and urban green space management.

Through this PKM program, Politeknik Piksi Ganesha reaffirms its commitment to directly contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), by prioritizing applied technology and local community empowerment.

We highly appreciate the initiative of Politeknik Piksi Ganesha in implementing hydroponic technology in Maleer Village. This activity is not only a form of community service, but also a concrete step towards promoting urban food security and advancing modern agriculture in limited spaces.

By introducing hydroponics, the community is given an alternative method of cultivation that is more efficient, environmentally friendly, and economically valuable. This aligns well with the spirit of the Buruan SAE program (Healthy, Natural, and Economical) initiated by the Bandung City Government, encouraging residents to transform their yards into sustainable sources of healthy food.

More than just a transfer of technology, this initiative creates opportunities for education, collaboration, and long-term community empowerment. We hope the hydroponic system can be continuously developed by the residents independently and become an inspiration for other communities to follow.
