Politeknik Piksi Ganesha Empowers Community with IoT-Based Nutrient Film Technique Hydroponic Training
Bandung, August 6, 2025

The Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Politeknik Piksi Ganesha successfully conducted a two-day training on Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) hydroponic cultivation integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Held on August 6, 2025, at Kelurahan Maleer, Kecamatan Batununggal, Kota Bandung, the program was part of the Campus Service Program (Kampus Mengabdi) under the Community Empowerment Scheme funded by KEMENDIKTISAINTEK grant 2025.
The training aimed to equip local residents, novice farming groups, and community partners with practical skills and knowledge about high-tech hydroponic farming. By combining NFT—a method of growing plants in a thin film of nutrient solution—with IoT systems, participants learned how to use sensors, automated controls, and remote monitoring to improve urban agriculture efficiency. This innovative approach is designed to help communities optimize resource use and boost food production sustainably.
“Our goal is to empower the community by introducing cutting-edge agricultural technology that is both accessible and effective,” said Dr. Candra Mecca Sufyana, Head of LPPM Politeknik Piksi Ganesha. “The integration of IoT with hydroponics offers a promising solution for urban farming challenges, aligning with our commitment to sustainable development and community growth.”
The curriculum covered fundamental concepts of NFT and IoT, system assembly, sensor installation, digital monitoring of plant nutrition and environmental conditions, and hands-on simulation of web and mobile monitoring applications. The training supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), and responsible consumption and production (SDG 12).
Through initiatives like this, Politeknik Piksi Ganesha continues to play an active role in fostering innovation and technology transfer to the community, contributing to sustainable development and economic empowerment.
