Politeknik Piksi Ganesha Empowers Communities Through Maggot Cultivation Training for Household Waste Management
Bandung, August 14, 2025

Politeknik Piksi Ganesha conducted a Community Service Program (PKM) entitled “From Waste to Blessings: Education, Action, and Solutions”, focusing on maggot cultivation as an innovative approach to household waste management. The training was held in Maleer Subdistrict, Bandung, and attended by 40 representatives of the Waste-Free Area (Kawasan Bebas Sampah/KBS) coordinators from across the community.
This program aims to transform household organic waste into valuable resources through maggot cultivation, which can serve as both an environmentally friendly waste management method and an economic opportunity for local communities.
The initiative is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 1 (No Poverty): creating economic value from waste by utilizing maggots as animal feed and compost.
- SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): fostering cleaner, healthier neighborhoods through waste reduction.
- SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): promoting sustainable waste practices within households.
- SDG 13 (Climate Action): reducing the impact of unmanaged organic waste on greenhouse gas emissions.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions, local government, and communities.
Through this training, we want to show that waste is not merely a problem but also a resource. Maggot cultivation is a practical solution that not only supports environmental sustainability but also empowers communities economically, said [Candra Mecca Sufyana, Head of PKM Team, Politeknik Piksi Ganesha].
By implementing this program, Politeknik Piksi Ganesha reaffirms its commitment to community empowerment and sustainable development, while contributing to a cleaner and more resilient Bandung.
