Sharing Blessing Boxes: Small Steps for Zero Hunger and Better Health (“One Box, One Blessing”)

Saturday, June 21, 2025

One of the global challenges that still exists today is hunger. Many people still struggle to meet their daily food needs, even in our own communities. In response to this challenge, the rice box sharing program (blessing box) was created as a simple but meaningful step to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

This activity involves distributing rice boxes to homeless people, daily workers, and online motorcycle taxi drivers. These groups often have to delay eating due to time constraints or uncertain income. Through the distribution of rice boxes, they at least receive nutritious food that helps them maintain their energy, stamina, and overall health in carrying out their daily activities.

SDG 2: Zero Hunger aims to end hunger by ensuring everyone has access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food throughout the year. Meanwhile, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being emphasizes the importance of healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. The blessing box sharing program is a concrete implementation of both goals, as food security and health are deeply interconnected.

Although simple, distributing food is a direct contribution to reducing hunger in the community while also preventing health risks caused by poor nutrition. This action shows that achieving SDG targets is not only possible for governments or large institutions, but can also be initiated by communities, organizations, and individuals who care about others.

For the recipients, the benefits of the blessing boxes are not just food; behind them is a message of care and moral support. The nutritious food they receive helps reduce hunger, maintain stamina, and give new enthusiasm to continue their activities. This reflects the spirit of SDG 2 and SDG 3, which stress the importance of nutritious food and good health for all levels of society, especially the most vulnerable.

The act of sharing blessing boxes also teaches us that everyone has a role to play in creating a world without hunger and with better health. Small actions like sharing food, reducing waste, and supporting food security initiatives can lead to healthier, stronger communities.

With more and more parties involved, small movements such as sharing blessing boxes can grow into larger efforts that bring real change. This aligns with the spirit of the SDGs, which calls on everyone to collaborate for a better future. Through the blessing box program, we learn that small steps can create a big impact: one box of rice can fill stomachs, improve health, relieve fatigue, and bring hope.

This sharing activity really touched the heart. One box of rice may look small, but its meaning is so big: giving hope, maintaining health, and spreading kindness. HIMA MIK has shown that student organizations can be a driving force for change. Hopefully this spirit of kindness will spread to more communities ^^
