Collaboration between Students and Tourism Office to Promote Tourism Village in North Kalimantan
Novembe 11, 2024 – Sesayap District, North Kalimantan
Piksi Ganesha Polytechnic students have a golden opportunity to contribute to advancing the tourism sector in North Kalimantan. In collaboration with the local Tourism Office, the students were involved in a tourism village development program, an initiative that aims to increase local tourism potential while empowering village communities.
Education and Tourism Synergy
This collaboration opens up space for students to apply the knowledge they have learned in college. Students from various majors, such as tourism management, visual communication design, and information technology, play an active role in various aspects of tourism village development. They help design digital marketing strategies, create promotional content, and provide training to the community on quality tourism services.
The program also provides students with practical insights into the importance of collaboration between academia, government and communities in advancing sustainable tourism. This is in line with Piksi Ganesha Polytechnic’s vision to produce quality graduates who are ready to enter the workforce.
Developing Tourism Village Potential in North Kalimantan
North Kalimantan has extraordinary natural and cultural wealth, such as tropical forests, beautiful rivers, and unique local traditions and arts. Unfortunately, many tourist villages in this region have not been managed optimally. Through this collaboration program, the Tourism Office collaborates with students to identify the superior potential of these villages and package them into attractive tourist attractions.
One example of the program is the training of tour guides for village youth, the creation of digital-based promotional materials, and the management of environmentally friendly tourist facilities. With this approach, it is expected that tourist villages in North Kalimantan will be able to attract more local and foreign tourists.
Benefits for Students and the Community
This collaboration not only provides valuable experience for students, but also empowers village communities. Students learn to adapt and work in a real environment, while the community gains new knowledge to manage their tourism potential independently.
In addition, the success of this program can boost the local economy through increased tourist visits, the creation of new jobs, and increased community income. The synergy between Piksi Ganesha Polytechnic students and the Tourism Office is expected to become a model of tourism village development that can be replicated in other areas.
Hope for the Future
With the spirit of collaboration, the development of tourism villages in North Kalimantan is expected to continue and have a sustainable impact. This initiative is also proof that the involvement of the younger generation in regional development is very important.
Piksi Ganesha Polytechnic students have proven that their knowledge can be a driving force for positive change in the community. This collaboration is the first step to creating inclusive, sustainable tourism, and elevating the uniqueness of North Kalimantan to the national and international level.
